m8 MAGAZINE: Infamous Light is one of these 'download only' labels, which for all my dislike towards mp3's I cannot take away from the quality here. 'Jester' is a deep tech-house affair that will be ideal for set starters, but the pick of the two here is the Darkside mix of Venutian Dancer with it's plodding style bass line, weird and bizarre sounds and cool percussion. Also check out the previous release, Flexuous 'New Truth EP' for a cool housey vibe. Rating M7/M8 - Derek Taylor
PROGRESSIVE SOUNDS: Just on about a year ago, American Jairus Miller released his debut Feng Shui EP. From then it has just been uphill, with remixes and productions being released on a plethora of labels, and very recently his outstanding remix of Micah´s "Capable Space". This release showcases a sense of diversity in his productions, as both tracks take a distinctively different directions to eachother, with the results being very positive. Jester is the slow burner of the two, and warms us up for the madness on the flipside. "After Hours" describes the mood well, as it would fit the mood perfectly during those early hours of the morning. The percussion occupies the low to mid ranges of the composition, and we get a tech-influenced melody riding along the top of this. Its slower pace defines a definite groove and creates a very warm atmosphere overall. Venutian Dancer also posesses a strong groove, but this time round its a dirty groove as opposed to a more refined groove on the flipside. Fusing a unique combination of electro-rock and tech sounds, the result powerful. An electro guitar riff rides a wave through the mid ranges of the composition, and is helped along its way by a combination of dirty filtered effects and lush pads. This shows that Miller isn´t scared to experiment in different sounds, which is always a magnificent trait for producers to have. A solid release for both Jairus Miller and for Infamous Light Recordings. Miller has been making quite a name for himself lately, as his tracks are definately not afraid to think outside the square. With the large amount of progressive tunes released, this slight edge can make the difference between someone noticing your track and disregarding it as being too common. Definately a name to watch out for in the future.
RESIDENT ADVISOR: Infamous Light’s seventh release comes from the 23 year-old Jairus Miller after a year from his debut single “Feng Shui” EP. Managing to fit time to remix selected cuts from Toes in the Sand, Pacific Front, while releasing a few original pieces through Nigh Drive Music among others, his newest single comes in the form of a 2-track Jester and Venutian. Track one is Jester (After Hours Mix), a deep and trippy ride of wobbly beats and creepy soundscapes. Minimal throughout the course, you find that the track fits the scope of something Warp would put out, and at times, you’ll wonder why didn’t they pick up Miller for their label. The mix blends perfectly for the afterhours indeed, as it has that whole 4am fucked up sound going on - simply dubby and dark, and that’s the good thing about it. You’re not dancing; hopefully, you’re not taking drugs because this will fit as a substitute instead. Track two is Venutian Dancer (Darkside Mix), the upbeat, four-to-the-floor cut that looks to grab a hold of the crowd. Vocal samples built around the concept of sound echoing to give it the tribal push. Unfortunately, the track goes nowhere and relies heavily on the sfx’s to entice listeners. Nothing is overdone, yet, nothing really happens for the entire length of the piece.
FEEDBACK
"I've always been a fan of Jairus Miller's stuff but ive got to admit that these are some of his best productions in my opinion. I played them both in the same set .. opened up with my own acapella and then into 'Jester' (After Hours Mix) .. i like the way its starts and progresses through out the track , perfect early on or lateron an an afterparty when the lights are low. Later on in the set i introduced 'Venutian Dancer' (Darkside Mix) with its dark groove and vocal snippets , i was asked 3 times the name of the track and have since passed on the information about the track."

"Nice production work on 'Venutian Dancer', will work very well during peak time of a dj set. Liking the driving basslines
and synth work. 'Jester' - Really liking the synth work that Jairus provided in this track, will work out nicely as an intro track.
Danny Rodrigues, Resurgent Records (Australia)

'Jester' is the one probably most likely to get a play though."
