PRESS

m8 MAGAZINE: Three-track EP worthy of mention thanks to 'Your Future', which is as oddball as the other tracks, but perhaps marginally more dancefloor-friendly. This is not to say they're not dance tunes, but they do take odd swerves at strange junctures, which makes them more interesting but harder to programme. 'Your Future' wins out because of its drive, its persuasive one-note bassline, pulsing pads and rattling metallic hi-hats. 3/5 - Bill Brewster (UK)

DISCOID: Flexuous (aka Ian Stanford) likes to come out with interesting pieces of music that are not conforming to any preset ideas or even trends of the moment and he also likes the idea of making something that will remain in the listeners head for more than 5 minutes. For me, with this newest project, he has done exactly that - electronic enough to be twisted and yet warm enough to keep the right kind of vibe going, I like this cheeky little number! - David Colkett, Discoid/Sound Barrier (Italy)

365 Mag: The New Truth EP was produced by British-based Ian Standford under the guise of Flexuous. New Truth EP comes to us on Infamous Light Recordings. Let's get into the music... The first track of his Flexous EP starts with a really playful intro. The sound of the first track resonates with a soft beat through the speakers. It is divided into three parts, with every part playing a story. It is an enjoyable track from the beginning till the end A nice mixture of electronic sounds and experiments of an e-guitar. The second track uses atmospheric sounds and some bleeping sounds. The tempo is quicker than the first one, so you can feel the energy increase. The third and last track consists of a soft intro which immediately puts me in a good mood. This track reminds me of typical chill-out sounds, played in the morning hours in nightclubs. All in all this EP is well produced. It's decent house which contains new elements under the watchful eye of Ian Standford. The consistent bass-line sits primarily in the foreground of the track, which could be seen as positive or negative thing depending on your standpoint. Decent, but not ground breaking.

RESIDENT ADVISOR: The 23 year-old Flexuous out of the United Kingdom takes a stab at his first solo release with the New Truth EP under Infamous Light Recordings and learns his niche while finding that taking ideas of the past can be a very inspirational. New Truth is a bit funky, a bit bumpy, yet smooth like a coat of rich ice cream. A lovely piece to open the EP as the lo-fi fidelity captures the ear immediately. It’s cool while achieving its goal of being a dance-friendly track and still being an interesting piece of music for the stereo. Polished drum beats overlapping the live instruments gives New Truth the added punch to showcase why the label believes in the young producer. Keep Quiet overall approach works better than New Truth, though it’s not on par as the opener. A livelier percussion and a slight hint of melody in the air, there certainly is a groove that’s building. Strangely enough, the productions on Keep Quiet sounds better than New Truth, but you really can’t go wrong with either one, until you hear the last track. Last, but not least is Your Future, a crazy little bug that glitches it’s way around your head and heart. Very loungey and dancey all at the same time, you’d wonder with all its jazz elements and influences, why there isn’t a jazz remix. Building from the tempo of “New Truth” and “Keep Quiet,” this will add another reason why you’ll pay attention to the EP and the young Flexuous from here on out.

INTHEMIX: A rich debut EP encompassing a variety of sounds that fits Flexuous into a clever niche covering deep house, electro, funk and lots of bounce all produced with quite a unique flair. The New Truth EP by UK based producer Flexuous is his debut solo album. The EP contains 3 tracks. First up is New Truth. The track bounces along grounded strongly by a heavily dubbed non-clich electro riff, the track is accompanied by a host of monotonous glitch and pop elements not unfamiliar of the minimal school. The low frequency bass infused with a subtle layer of acid top off a deep yet funky number. A flawless track that would not be out of place in house, minimal, electro or techno sets, huge crossover appeal. The attention demanded by Flexuous does cease as we move into Keep Quiet. The track explores slightly more dubbed territory. Once again the track has big crossover appeal achieved by a very Infusion style rumbling bassline, deep progressive rhythms brought from their depths by crisp raw percussion and a wicked distorted, hardly identifiable vocal. The third and final track on the EP Your Future takes a stab at leftfield terrain. It’s a dubby electro number laced with hypnotic chords and melodic synths. Once again the track is successfully grounded in it deep bassline and rich, raw percussion. Flexuous’ debut release on Melbourne’s digital record label Infamous Light Recordings is quality. Surpassing electro, progressive and deep house is only the beginning of Flexuous’ obviously diverse talents. Check it out!

FEEDBACK

"I really loved the 'New Truth' track...it has a nice sophisticated deep groove with a nice modern edge...great production....also the track called 'Keep Quiet' is really nice....i would love to be able to play these kinda trax all the time but im always playin quite late so would be hard to fit in...but nevertheless its a great soundin record with a fat bass that i would be happy to drop at the right time of nite...great work. "

"The 'New Truth' EP features 3 unique tracks that stand out from the multitude of records that are routinely being churned out by the majority of independent record labels today. What strikes the listener the most is the level of detail in the production, the varied arrangements, and the musicianship behind the work. Flexuous brings an undeniable groove & funk to each track, and combines this with subtle but memorable synth hooks - making this EP an absolute joy to listen to."
