PJ - Hedfok (Original Mix)

Featured in the FEATURE FILM 'Bondi Tsunami'

Hailed as a modern Australian cult classic movie, Bondi Tsunami has received rave reviews in Australia and abroad due to the films unique cross cultural image of Japanese in Australia and revolutionary music video motion picture style. Designed for a new age of plasma screen TV’s, nightclub screens and home theatre set ups, Bondi Tsunami is a multi platform viewing piece that can be watched subliminally as a wall paper movie or as a linear piece. Featured in over 300 local and international magazines, newspapers, radio and TV programs the ‘making of’ story behind Bondi Tsunami is as legendary as the film itself; shot on a DV camera, for a budget of 12 credit cards, made by a crew of four people and a cast of four first time Japanese actors. Creatively, culturally and technically, Bondi Tsunami stands at the cutting edge of digital film making revolution as a post millennium movie; edited on a Mac computer using Final Cut Pro and Pro tools programs, Bondi Tsunami is a stellar example of high quality, commercially viable DV film making. Since its inception, Bondi Tsunami has generated a massive cult following in Australia and around the world for a micro budget guerilla feature film. The success of Bondi Tsunami has since inspired a wave of Australian new media and digital filmmakers to self produce their own guerilla style films. Since Bondi Tsunami’s release in 2004, the cross-cultural images of the movie have become an iconic symbol of an Australian/Japanese mixed culture. Described as `Eternally cool’, Bondi Tsunami’s spirited East/ West pop sensibility has captured the imagination of people of all ages and backgrounds, from all around the world. The subculture surrounding the Bondi Tsunami movie has dually become a networking, meeting point for Australian/ Japanese liaison. In 2005, the Australia Japan Media Network was formed to facilitate the expansion of the Bondi Tsunami brand into a diverse range of cross cultural activities in areas such as film, media, tourism, advertising, casting and consultancy.

"Melbourne based electronic artist/ producer Praveen Jayarajan (“PJ”) records under the collective alias Infamous Light Recordings. His psychedelic monotone masterpiece Hedfok was selected for the Bondi Tsunami movie because of its mesmerising beat, astral loop and the faint sound of spirits crying in the background." - Anthony Lucas-Smith, Burlesque Productions

PRESS

m8 MAGAZINE: One of the many ‘Digital Only’ labels to be springing up around the world now that digital distribution seems to be all the rage. And with minimal outlay to set up such ‘Digital’ labels we look forward to a huge range of more experimental material coming through that wouldn’t otherwise see the light of day. This, the 4th release from Infamous Light, sees two mixes of Praveen Jayarajan’s (PJ’s) latest work courtesy of US producers Raygun (deep tech-house) and Highkoo on a more minimal techy vibe. Both very much on the deeper end of progressive relevance but many will love the originality and clean quality of production. Rating M7/M8 - Standby

365 MAG: PJ is an alias of Melbourne based producer Praveen Jayarajan. At the dawn of 2004, he founded his little bambino in the form of Infamous Light Recordings. The label is one of the very first digital only record labels worldwide. The Original version of Hedfok featured towards the end of the Japanese/Australian feature film "Bondi Tsunami". Now, two US based producers (Raygun and Highkoo) remix Hedfok for ILR's fourth digital release. The Raygun Remix is first up. This has a quality deep houser with a progressive feel to it. It's quite a beefy, dubby and techy affair, with an element of funk in it too. Whilst slightly dark, the melody provides a pleasing light contrast. The Highkoo Remix begins with a warped sound before kicking into a techno tinted minimal houser. The bass-line is fairly entrancing and, coupled with the spirit samples from the original, give this mix a twisted, trippy and eerie take. This is a solid release with two different but equally playable mixes. Don't forget that if you want to buy this to visit a digital store on the internet.

RESIDENT ADVISOR: Installment 4 on the ILR roster comes in the form of the Hedfok remixes. The remixes were created from a competition, label boss PJ, ran via his website. The two winners having the honor of having their work released through the label. The Raygun remix is a nice minimal dubby track. The bass line is deep but not too moody with a wispy vocal stab adding a lighter touch to the track. Nothing jumps out and grabs you in the track it just gently builds layer upon layer keeping things nice and smooth. The Highkoo remix has a bigger dance floor appeal considering the tracks making waves out on dance floors at the moment. Similar to other ILR releases it has lots of quirky effects but without going too overboard, keeping things deep and bassy. Each phrase of music adding something different from the previous. The beatboxing on this track is used to great effect as well.
